Gallipoli
The peninsula in European Turkey between the Aegean Sea and the Dardanelles, where the Allies fought from 19 February 1915 to 9 January 1916 in an unsuccessful attempt to take the Turkish straits and force the Ottoman Empire out of the war. The first Australian troops landed at Anzac Cove on 25 April 1915.
