The cryptanalysis section of the British Admiralty, formed soon after the war began in 1914, which decrypted around 15,000 intercepted German communications during the war. Its first breakthrough was the codebook the Russians recovered from the cruiser Magdeburg, and its most notable contribution was decrypting the Zimmermann Telegram.
