Royal Flying Corps
The air arm of the British Army until it merged with the Royal Naval Air Service on 1 April 1918 to form the Royal Air Force. It began with artillery co-operation and photographic reconnaissance, which led to aerial battles, and sent four squadrons to France in August 1914.
