Q-ship
An armed decoy: a merchant ship with concealed guns, sent out by the Royal Navy to lure a U-boat to the surface and sink it. It sank some submarines but also lost many of its own ships, and U-boat commanders soon learned to treat lone merchant vessels with suspicion.
