Pre-dreadnought
A battleship built from the mid-1880s to the early 1900s, so named in hindsight because the commissioning of HMS Dreadnought in 1906 made all existing battleships obsolete. Pre-dreadnoughts carried a secondary battery of smaller guns, typically 6-inch, in addition to their heavy main guns.
