Lebel rifle

The French 8 mm bolt-action infantry rifle adopted in 1886 and issued from 1887, the first military firearm to use smokeless powder. Eight rounds sat in a tube under the barrel, and it remained the standard rifle of French infantry throughout the war, alongside Berthier variants.
