The Mauser bolt-action rifle that was the main German infantry rifle of the war, adopted on 5 April 1898. It fired the 7.92 mm Mauser cartridge loaded from a five-round stripper clip, and its design features were soon adopted by other countries, including Britain, the United States and Japan.
