Triage
The process of deciding the order of priority for treating injured people when there are more casualties than care providers. In 1914 the Belgian surgeon Antoine Depage introduced a five-step system of triage and staged evacuation for the French and Belgian armies; at casualty clearing stations those needing immediate surgery were sent forward first.
