Remembrance poppy
An artificial flower worn to commemorate military personnel who died in war. Inspired by the poem In Flanders Fields, written by John McCrae in May 1915, poppies were first used near the end of the First World War, and by 1921 they had been widely accepted as a flower of remembrance for Armistice Day.
