Mandate
A system established by the League of Nations under which former German colonies and Ottoman provinces were administered by a victorious power on the League's behalf. Class A mandates, in the Middle East, were deemed near independence, while Class C territories, in the Pacific and South West Africa, were treated as part of the mandatory power.
