Torpedo boat
A small, fast warship built to carry torpedoes into battle against much larger ships. The first designs were steam craft that rammed enemy ships with spar torpedoes; later boats fired self-propelled Whitehead torpedoes, and a swarm of them attacking together could overwhelm a larger ship's defenses.
