Torpedo

A self-propelled underwater weapon with an explosive warhead, made effective by Robert Whitehead in 1866. Fired by submarines and small surface vessels, torpedoes sank warships and merchant ships alike, among them the liner Lusitania, hit by a single torpedo from U-20 in May 1915.
