Christmas Truce
A series of widespread unofficial ceasefires along the Western Front around Christmas 1914. Soldiers crossed the trenches to exchange greetings, and in places mingled in no man's land to swap food and souvenirs. Roughly 100,000 British and German troops are estimated to have been involved, though the truce was patchy and far from complete.
