Bosnian Crisis
The crisis that erupted in October 1908 when Austria-Hungary annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina, formerly Ottoman territories it had administered since 1878; Emperor Franz Joseph's decree is dated 5 October. The move, timed with Bulgaria's declaration of independence, brought protests from all the Great Powers and from Austria-Hungary's Balkan neighbors.
