Balkans
A region of southeastern Europe, named after the Balkan Mountains, bordered by the Adriatic, Ionian, Aegean and Black Seas. The First World War was sparked there in 1914 when Young Bosnia members assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo, which led to war between Austria-Hungary and Serbia.
