Arab Revolt
An armed uprising by Hashemite-led Arabs of the Hejaz against the Ottoman Empire, officially begun at Mecca on 10 June 1916 on the basis of the McMahon–Hussein correspondence. Its main contribution to the war was to pin down tens of thousands of Ottoman troops who might otherwise have attacked the Suez Canal.
