M1917 Browning machine gun

The water-cooled, belt-fed heavy machine gun designed by John Browning and tested at Springfield Armory in May 1917. The American army also used the French Hotchkiss; production started slowly, so only about 1,200 Brownings saw combat before the Armistice, and some guns arrived too late.
