Gas mask
Protective equipment that seals over the face to stop the wearer from breathing toxic gases. The First World War created the first need for mass-produced gas masks, after the German gas attack at Ypres on 22 April 1915, and designs advanced quickly from crude pads and hoods to the box respirator.
