Plate 9 of 87 · Class II, Machine guns

Chauchat

The standard French light machine gun, officially the Fusil Mitrailleur Modèle 1915 CSRG, in service with French infantry from June 1916. American troops who used it in 1917–18 notoriously hated its unreliability and nicknamed it the Sho-Sho. More than 250,000 were made.
