Big Bertha
The popular name of the Krupp 42 cm siege howitzer, one of the largest artillery pieces ever fielded. Two prototypes were sent to Liège in August 1914 and destroyed Forts Pontisse and Loncin. The nickname Dicke Bertha honored Bertha Krupp, who inherited the Krupp works from her father.
